Melbourne Corporate Comms style

(Melbourne, Australia) Meet Christina Costigan, a corporate communications professional, actor, and aerial hoop artist who prefers to wear tailored dresses during the week and Sass & Bide on the weekend. She’s driven by her desire to always improve, inspired by working with great people, and seeing her contribution make a difference. The Melbourne born and bred 45 year-old also lived in LA and holidays in Napa, New York, and Paris.
How did you end up in corporate communications?
“I'm an actor at heart and spent 20 years pursuing that career while working in a variety of part-time office admin type roles. Six years ago I decided to switch focus and found Corporate Communications to be a natural fit for my personality and existing skill-set. Actor training is like a superpower in corporate land, especially when public speaking and relationship building are core aspects of the job."

"I haven't left my acting passion behind. I'm also a co-founder of Baggage Productions, an independent theatre company, which supports women in the arts. Since 2000, we produce one to two shows per year, from original scripts."

“My first corporate role was with Treasury Wine Estates (TWE), a crash course in corporate comms, I tasted amazing wines as part of my job, and worked with some incredibly talented people from whom I learned a great deal. I spent five years at TWE, and am now at AIA Australia.”
Work week looks?
“AIA Australia is a life insurance company. The financial services industry is quite conservative in terms of dress - lots of suits! But AIA has a relaxed corporate dress policy so I see a range of styles from really sharp suits (our CEO always dresses with style) to jeans. I like Australian label, Cue - I've found some great dresses there, and I like that they are made in Australia."

(Note: Cue ships internationally, including Canada through Borderfree)

"When I'm not at work, you'll also find me in the gym almost every day, sometimes doing double workout classes including yoga and step. A few years ago I also got into aerial hoop workout. For workouts it's usually leggings and fitted tops."
How has your style evolved over the years?
"I've always liked the jeans & jacket combo, but I used to wear looser clothing as I was very self-conscious about my figure. I've become more confident over the years so now wear more tailored clothes. I like classic styles with a twist or interesting detail. And I have become more bold with colour and patterns, steering myself away from Melbourne’s traditional black."
Thank you Christina! You prove that you can be active AND pursue your passions while also having a fulfilling corporate career.
